Soroptimist International of San Juan

Chartered: September 14,1990

Soroptimist International of San Juan (SISJ) was founded in 1990 at the initiative of its Charter President, Corazon Ortega-Espiritu who at the time was Vice-President of SI Makati. After the requirements of putting up a new club were complied with, SI Makati and SI Q.C. chartered the new club with 30 members installed and sworn in to Soroptimist. In turn, five clubs were chartered by SI San Juan, among them: SI Mandaluyong, SI EDSA Villagers, SI Las Pinas, SI La Union and SI Dasmarinas. Only SI Mandaluyong remains active up to the present. It was also during the term of CP Espiritu when the Club was granted a generous amount by an international donor. That monetary aid was give to help the victims of the destructive earthquake that hit Baguio City, La Union and adjoining municipalities in 1991.

Biennium 2020-2022

Fifteen abled and hardworking presidents followed CP Espiritu, namely: Josefina D. Pineda (1992-1994). Victoria M. Montilla (1994-1996), Lourdes C. Quezon (+) (1996-1998); Teresita Ryan (1998-2000), Lucia O. Castro (2000-2002), Cristina G. Caedo (2002-2004), Deanna L. Gregorio (+) (2004-2006), Elizabeth L. Diaz (2006-2008), Epinila M. Ocampo (2008-2010), Leonida B. Ortiz (2010-2012), Cynthia G. Doronila (2012-2014), second termer Epinila M. Ocampo (2014-2016), Mary Joy I. Leoy (2016-2018) and present president Neriza B. Llena (2018-2020)

In the early year of 2000, the club encountered a great challenge in keeping the number of members, from 36 members down the minimum required. And in the year 2020, when the pandemic strikes, membership went down to 8 but still survived. And in 2022, SI San Juan gained strength with 7 more members that are actively working hard to empower women and girls.
