ABOUT US

It began in 1996 when a team of lovely ladies riding in a flashy car from Soroptimist International of Angeles accompanied by Mr. Emil Alejandrino visited Charter President Fredesswinda R. Serrano in her house selling the idea of organizing a Soroptimist Club in Magalang. It did not catch her interest that time, as she was deeply involved in many social, civic and religious activities. She almost lost the opportunity to serve in a more concrete way to the people of Magalang, particularly women, but in their next visit, her Aunt-in-Law, whom she respects so much, was with them. It was she, who erased her wrong notion that only rich women join a Soroptimist Club. After one more visit, she finally accepted the challenge of organizing a Soroptimist Club in Magalang not wanting to lose the rare chance to serve and make a difference in the lives of women and girls in the fast developing town of Magalang in the beautiful province of Pampanga. She believes that Magalang has potent women power in them waiting to be harnessed and released.

She started inviting women who have enormous potential to serve. They did not bother to ask how much expense their joining entailed, they only knew then, they would tapped for service where it is needed.

So on March 25, 1996, District Director Nemia F. Ocampo presented the TWENTY (20) Charter Members while Past Governor Luz Un Ocampo inducted them to the club. President Doris Sy Hian of SI Angeles City also presented the elected Charter Officers to Governor Gladys Tiongco of the then Soroptimist International of the Philippines Region, (now SIAPR) who likewise did the Charter Presentation and Installation of Officers of SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF MAGALANG. Its charter application was approved on April 06, 1996.

SI Magalang is now making a name in the world of Soroptimist. Its committed and passionate members are determined to go far from strength to strength while remaining focused and faithful to the ideals for which the Soroptimists stand for.
